  • 3/4 cup buttermilk (room temperature)
  • 3/4 cup hot water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • For frosting: 3 egg whites, 1 cup dark brown sugar, 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter
  • For topping: 1/4 cup dulce de leche, dark chocolate, heavy whipping cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease two round baking pans.
  2. In one bowl, mix flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together oil, buttermilk, hot water, eggs, and vanilla.
  4. Combine wet and dry ingredients using an electric mixer until smooth.
  5. Pour batter into prepared pans and bake for about 30-35 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. While cooling, whip egg whites until soft peaks form; gradually add brown sugar then mix in butter until creamy.
  7. Frost layers of the cooled cake with frosting and drizzle with dulce de leche.
