Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb beef sirloin or flank steak, thinly sliced
  • 5 tbsp soy sauce (divided)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch (plus 1 tbsp for the sauce)
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • ½ cup water or beef broth
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • Optional: grated ginger, black pepper, green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef with 2 tbsp soy sauce, 1 tbsp cornstarch, rice vinegar, and sesame oil for at least 15 minutes.
  2. Prepare the sauce by mixing remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, sugar, cornstarch, and water/broth until smooth.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a skillet over high heat. Cook marinated beef for 2–3 minutes per side until browned. Remove from the pan.
  4. Stir-fry bell peppers and onion for about 3–4 minutes until tender-crisp. Add garlic (and ginger if using) and cook for an additional 30 seconds.
  5. Mix cooked beef back into the skillet with vegetables and pour in the prepared sauce. Cook for another 2–3 minutes until thickened.
  6. Serve garnished with chopped green onions over steamed rice or noodles.
